Pepper them!!!

...Too much information everywhere. The era of social media has thrown being discreet to the thrash. Private matters fly all over public domain. Everyone has an opinion, a voice and a story, but wisdom is a scarce commodity.

There is this burning urge to keep the world abreast of happenings in our lives, especially the "sweet ones". However, everything is picture perfect online. Stories are exaggerated, accounts are sugar coated, pictures are airbrushed...

So, the "pepper them" mentality grows. An average Nigerian wants to show that they are better than their neighbours, colleagues, etc; that they have it all. There's a silent competition going on. So, we always want to tell them, show them...

In my opinion, it's better to be mute than talkative. The problems of talking too much far outweigh those of not talking enough. Know where to draw the line. "My husband is the best ever. He did this......", "My boss trusts me, the key to the safe is with me......". Cho Cho Cho, too much talk. Some stories & pictures should not be for public consumption!

Many have used their mouths and keyboards to open up Pandora's box...

Motherhood...

It's a full time job; day & night. No breaks!

There's no payment, at least not for now. Not that any amount would suffice anyway!

The bulk of it is on one party...unfair but true!

It could be tiring, oh well...

It's worth it still...

Hallelujah

That moment when I am shopping and on a very very tight budget; suddenly I see this item that I just can't resist, but my budget is very tight still... then I see that it doesn't come in my size. I just heave a sigh of relief and say "thank you Jesus, you never leave me without a witness...

Gone...

Gone are the days when academic excellence meant anything.

Gone are the days when genuine hard work paid off.

Gone are the days when education was refered to as "the best legacy".

Gone are the days when intelligence was attractive.

I yearn for the days when a deliberate positive action, resulting in a spectacular feat, such as graduating with a perfect score of 5.00CGPA, will break the internet. When companies will queue up to endorse such individual. When every newspaper, magazine, channel, blog and platform will put it in our faces for days on end, reiteratting the message, especially to the younger ones, that excellence is achievable and more importantly, rewarding.

How do we encourage the younger ones to sit up academically, when at the end of the day, all they get are handshakes and laptops? There are even no jobs for them after all the toiling.

Whereas, those who were termed unserious or uneducated take the spot light. They are the Yahoo boys, whose fraudulent ways prove most productive, as they are amongst those who ride the best cars, or the musicians who with a perfect blend of noisiness and vulgarity get the best endorsements and live the best lives. They are the runs babes who fly round the world in private jets, and reside in mansions.

So, how exactly do we get back to the yester years of glory? Is hawking of commodities the new way forward and all it takes?

Shushhhh

Some people talk damn too much. Too much information, especially when unsolicited is bad. Be discreet!!! You just ask some people "how are you?", and they go off telling you the past, present and future happenings in their life, their partner's and entire generation.

The worst are those who give out information about others. E.g someone asks you about your friend and you go on about how she's pregnant, the sex of the unborn child, the delivery date and hospital, even possible names of the child! Shut up...

DILEMMA OF A LAGOSIAN!

 DILEMMA OF A LAGOSIAN!!!

A home is where the heart is; it is the place one should be the most comfortable and at ease. Supposedly.

To enjoy the benefits a home provides, especially peace and quiet, it might be helpful to consider not living next to

A School

A place of worship

A Market

1.You don't want to have your house next to a school, especially a nursery & primary school. It might seem OK and unproblematic if you're one who's usually out of the house during the day, till the day you are on leave, or home, sick! Imagine the life of stay/work at home people!

A typical day starts with being awoken by kids, who gayly explore their passion for drums and screaming, sorry singing ,with no restraint.

"PARENTS LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN, WE ARE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW..."

Just as you begin to heave a sigh of relief, thinking the worst is over, loud chants of

"A for apple" rent the air!

Or

"Okoro, why did you weewee on your body? Are you a baby? Can't you take excuse & go to the toilet?"

Then follows a string of canings. Poor Okoro!

Or

"...9 and 9, ninety-nine, 1-0-0, hundred"...

2. Some houses of worship need to be a bit more considerate. I know this is very controversial, but the truth is what it is. Imagine having a rough or busy Friday, your head is throbbing, you finally get to sit on your sofa, looking forward to some relaxation, and then comes this very loud microphone from over the fence.

Or you trying to catch some sleep in the early hours of a day, as had sleepless night; and then comes a very loud speaker from some blocks away.

Heaven help you if you are surrounded by a couple of them.

3. Ever heard someone say

"Why are you shouting like a market woman?"

Yes, they are that loud. Some of their normal chatters are so loud, now imagine them arguing and fighting. Then add the sounds of grinding machines, butchers cutting meat, knife sharpeners and hawkers.

Like those are not enough, the wastes generated in local markets leave a stench that extends to near buildings.

You think that's all? Add the rats from the market, a.k.a breeding ground, which find their ways into nearby homes.

Ewwwwww, right?! Of course.

Then, after the hustle of the day and all you can think of is getting in, you find your gate blocked by customers' cars, despite the bold

'NO PARKING' sign.

Thereafter begins the 'ultimate search' for the car owner...
